In keeping with the theme of design techniques for cold process soap, I was excited to work on this Cashmere Fig cold process soap that can be a great soap and gift idea for the holidays. Of course, it can be used all year long but I find this scent is perfect for the holidays. The cashmere fig scent has notes of fig leaves, coconut blend with white cedar wood, soft musk, and cashmere musk. It is fruity and earthy and crisp. It is hard to describe because it is wonderfully complex but it definitely is a lovely scent perfect for the holidays. To decorate the top layer of this soap I added golden bursting beads. These are great for decoration and when used they release additional oils that are great for further moisturizing the skin.

If you prefer using essential oils, I’ve included a lovely scent with essential oils that you can use as well below.
The soap design is a layered soap with a single color bottom layer and an in the pot swirl on the top layer. I picked colors that resemble the colors of figs to keep with the theme. The mica colorants I used are listed below. You can find similar colors at your favorite soap making supplier.
- Bottom Layer: Evergreen Mica mixed with Apple Moss Green Mica mixed at 50:50
- Top Layer: Merlot Sparkle Mica and Orchid Mica
This soap is gorgeous. I like how the green layer complements the complexity of the in the pot swirl on the top layer. This in the pot swirl technique is one of my favorites because it creates a different design each time I use it.
How to make Cashmere Fig Cold Process Soap
Additives used in the Cashmere Fig Cold Process Soap
Kaolin clay is a very gentle clay that is used in many cosmetics and face masks. It is not only gentle on the skin but it is also great for anchoring the scents in the soaps. I also think it gives a great slip to the soaps that make the soap super luxurious.
Colloidal oatmeal is also used in several skin care products. It helps retain moisture on the skin. It is very soothing and is usually recommended for people with dry skin. You can certainly skip this but I like it in my soaps because of its great skin properties.

Essential Oil Blend Perfect for the Holidays
You can also use a mix of wonderful essential oils if you prefer not to use fragrance oils. All the fragrance oils that I use in my soaps and recommend are phthalate free and from reputable soap making suppliers. Below is an idea for a holiday essential oil blend that can be used for this soap as well:
- 50% Lavender EO
- 20% Sweet Orange EO
- 20% Eucalyptus EO
- 10% Peppermint EO
The values to use in this essential oil holiday blend will depend on the size of your batch of soap. I recommend using a website such as eocalc.com to get the actual values for your specific needs. If selecting cold process soap they recommend entering the total values of the oils used only so keep that in mind when getting the values specific for your soap batch size.
