This all natural lip balm is very easy to make with only a few ingredients and peppermint essential oil. For this formulation, I used organic shea butter and organic cocoa butter. The shea butter feels luxurious on the skin and the organic cocoa butter gives the perfect chocolate scent. There are also wonderful moisturizing benefits of both shea butter and cocoa butter. The added sweet almond oil helps create the perfect consistency and the castor oil adds to the perfect texture.
How to make chocolate and peppermint all natural lip balm
Lip balm ingredients
- 10 grams Cocoa Butter
- 10 grams Shea Butter
- 10 grams Sweet Almond Oil
- 5 grams Castor Oil
- 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- Lip balm containers
Instructions
Weigh out the cocoa butter and shea butter and melt using the double boiler method or in the microwave for a few seconds. I prefer to use the double boiler method because it’s easier to control the temperature of the butters. Once most of the butters are melted and a few small amounts are left, remove them from the double boiler and mix with a spatula to finish melting.
Add the sweet almond oil and the castor oil to the melted butters and mix well.
Add the peppermint essential oil and continue to mix well with a spatula or a spoon.
Pour the lip balm into the lip balm containers and allow it to cool for 45 minutes to an hour. Use as needed and indulge in this great all natural lip balm that is just great for the skin.
This formulation is just perfect as it is but it can be a base for many variations. For the spring and summer months, I like to replace the peppermint essential oil with lavender or sweet orange essential oils. These essential oils are very aromatic and go well with the lovely chocolate aroma from the organic cocoa butter.
If the cocoa butter aroma is too strong, you can also use refined and deodorized cocoa butter. And as with many of the DIYs that I share in this blog these are also another great gift idea for friends and family.
