I am very excited to share another all natural and wonderful body butter recipe this week. This easy DIY colloidal oatmeal body butter is perfect to lock in moisture and is full of super skin loving ingredients with three butters. I enjoy using this colloidal oatmeal body butter recipe all year long. Colloidal oatmeal helps soften the skin and studies show it has anti-inflammatory properties and it helps with dry skin and adds a layer of protection.

This triple butter colloidal oatmeal body butter is very rich, with shea butter, kokum butter, and mango butter yet it feels very light on the skin. I added a very small amount of Lavender essential oil to it to add a scent and the wonderful properties of the essential oil as well.
Ingredients to make the colloidal oatmeal body butter all natural triple butter
- 1.5 oz shea butter
- 0.5 oz kokum butter
- 0.4 oz mango butter
- 1.5 oz of sweet almond oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp of colloidal oatmeal
- 0.1 oz vitamin E oil
- 4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (optional)
- 1 – 8 oz plastic jars
- Hand mixer
- Mixing bowls
How to make an all-natural colloidal oatmeal body butter
In a microwave-safe container weigh out the solid ingredients. The solid ingredients are the shea butter, mango butter, and kokum butter. Melt these butters in the microwave using 30 seconds intervals. For the size of this body butter recipe formulation, it will take about a minute and a half to fully melt. If there are any small amounts of unmelted butter, use a spatula and mix until fully melted.
Pour the melted butters into a mixing bowl and add the sweet almond oil and the vitamin E oil.
Mix all the ingredients together for a few seconds using a spatula and place them in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes to one hour. You can place it in the freezer for a few minutes until the butters have solidified a bit.
Remove the body butter from the refrigerator and add the colloidal oatmeal and the Lavender essential oil if you plan to use it. Mix for one to two minutes with the hand mixer to combine. Continue to mix for another 5 to 7 minutes to get an excellent light body butter consistency.
Lastly, transfer the body butter to the jars and keep them in a cool place.
This body butter is whipped therefore keep in mind that it will double in size. For the four ounces in this formulation, I was able to fill a full 8-ounce jar.
A few tips for troubleshooting when making this body butter
Something to keep in mind when making body butters is the temperature in the room. If you are making this recipe in a hot environment and it starts to melt when whipping place back in the refrigerator for another couple of minutes.
Body butters are very rich and I think this formulation is wonderful, however, if you want a less oily feel you can add a small amount of arrowroot powder. Increase slowly using 1/2 teaspoon at a time until you find the perfect consistency for you.
How to save the whipped colloidal oatmeal body butter
Transfer the body butter to your favorite container and use it as needed. Either glass or plastic containers will work. Make sure to use an air-tight seal container as it will help with keeping the body butter longer. Keep the body butter in a cool place and use it as needed.
This colloidal oatmeal body butter is perfect to use after a shave. It just goes smooth and light on the skin and with the lavender essential oil scent, it gives a very relaxing aroma.

What’s the shelf life for this recipe. Will the Colloidal Oatmeal make it go moldy?
jasmine@eccentricitiesbyjvg.com says
Hello, this body butter recipe keeps well for at least 3 months. In my tests, the body butter was still great after five months but I used it up by that time. If you plan to use it as a gift and for selling I do recommend using a natural preservative. I always make sure that it is also away from water to make sure it keeps for as long as possible.

What do you do if the oats make it kind of grainy? Like you can feel pieces of the oats?
jasmine@eccentricitiesbyjvg.com says
You can grind the oats until they become a smooth powder or purchase colloidal oatmeal that is designed for soapmaking and skin care products. I’ve had no issues with those. I hope this helps.
