DIY Faux Clay Vases For Home Decor That Are Unique As You

Changing the home decor or just a refresh of some of the home decorations can be a fun way to use your creativity and imagination. In this faux clay vases DIY you will learn how to make vases look like clay vases for unique home decor. This is a simple and easy way to also bring a unique style that can make a significant impact.

This DIY is perfect for farmhouse decorations and you can use items you already have at home such as old vases that no longer match your style and even glass jars from pantry items can be transformed into a beautiful home decoration that is as unique as you are.

Two faux clay vases a shorter and a longer one with pink, yellow and green flowers.

How to make any vase look like a clay vase with your own unique style

First, start by selecting the theme or the key colors you intend to use.

Gather the materials needed to make the clay vases

Materials for faux clay vases for home décor including a glass vase, baking soda, paint and a paint brush.
  • Baking Soda
  • Acrylic or Chalk Paint
  • Paint Brushes in various sizes
  • Dollar Tree Glass Vases in various sizes

For this DIY I used two glass vases that I used in the past to experiment with other craft ideas. That is one of the benefits of this type of DIY, you can use an old vase that no longer matches the colors or the style of your home. You can also choose to use items you want to recycle as well.

In the link above I included a list of the dollar store glass vases where you can find many different shapes and sizes for a very affordable price and make as many faux clay vases for home decor as you need.

Let’s get started making these fun and gorgeous faux clay vases for home decor

  1. In a mixing cup mix the baking soda and the main paint color for the faux clay vases and mix well until you achieve a thick paste texture.
  2. Apply a thin layer of the mix of baking soda and paint to the vases and allow them to fully dry.
  3. Add more baking soda to the mix until a very heavy paste texture is achieved and apply a second coat of this mix to the vases (or recycled glassware).

Once the layers of paint and baking soda are dried you will have recreated a gorgeous texture that resembles clay.

You can use your new gorgeous vases as is but I decided to add one more layer of color and design to create a more unique style.

How to add your unique style to the faux clay vases for home decor

  1. Using a pencil sketch the design on the clay vase. Use very light pressure.
  2. Once you are happy with the design paint the design using your choice of color and a small brush.

For the small faux clay vase I decided to create a simple vine with green leaves in a beautiful pastel green color. For the larger vase, I used painter’s tape to create two areas for a lovely blue and pink color contrast on the vase.

Lastly, add your favorite flowers and blooms and enjoy your unique faux clay vases!

Marbled Clay Palette DIY

These past few days I have been good at keeping my daily painting practice.
