I love using sugar scrubs, I made some earlier and shared the recipe and instructions here. Today I decided to make another variety of these skin-nourishing and exfoliating luxurious gems, grapefruit sugar scrub cubes. These sugar scrubs are hardened due to the use of melt and pour soap base in the recipe. It’s another easy DIY and the benefits for your skin are fantastic and also good for your wallet as you could find variations of these at various stores at much more than what it costs to make at home.

Ingredients
- 9 oz granulated sugar
- 4.5 oz melt and pour soap base
- 3 oz sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, or avocado oil (or a mix of them)
- 10-15 drops of grapefruit essential oil (you can buy it here)
- 2 drops of soap dye (red, optional)
- soap mold
I used cocoa butter soap base for this recipe but there are so many options out there, you can use, goat’s milk melt and pour soap base, shea butter melt and pour soap base, or clear glycerin soap base.
These sugar scrub cubes are super easy to make. These are exfoliating and fantastic for a refreshing morning shower and will leave beautifully conditioned skin.
How to make Grapefruit sugar scrub cubes
ONE: In a large microwave-safe glass container melt the “melt and pour” soap base. For the 4.5 oz that I used, 30 seconds in the microwave was sufficient to melt the soap base.
TWO: After the soap is fully melted incorporate the carrier oils. I used 1.5 oz of sweet almond oil and 1.5 oz of jojoba oil. This is a great combination of oils that will moisturize the skin. Mix the oils with the soap base and ensure completely incorporated. Add the grapefruit essential oil to this base. If you are using soap dye this is the time to incorporate it as well. I used two drops of the soap dye and it gave these sugar scrub cubes a beautiful orange-peach color. This color resembles closely the color of the grapefruit. And by the way, these sugar scrub cubes smell so amazing!
THREE: Set the tray close to where you are mixing since this step needs to be performed very quickly. Pour the sugar into the soap base and oils mix and mix rapidly to incorporate. If the mix starts to dry you can put it in the microwave to re-melt for 10 seconds at a time. Pour the mix into the molds and allow to cool completely for about an hour.
Once hardened remove from mold, separate the pieces or cut as needed, and voila, ready-to-use sugar scrub cubes.
Place the final product in an air-tight container and use it as needed.
I enjoy the grapefruit aroma and I recommend using it in the morning for an invigorating shower.

Jasmine, I am headed to a vacation this summer at someone’s home and I was wondering what I could take as a hostess gift. I have decided that I am going to look up your recipes and make a little basket for each of the ladies staying.

Wow, Jasmine! I love the way the soap base holds them in shape. That’s a great idea. I usually make mine with coconut oil, but of course that has to go in a jar. Hmm. May have to try it with the soap base.
