DIY Lavender Cashmere Bath Truffles

Lots of bubbles Lavender Cashmere Bath Truffles DIY

Lavender Cashmere Bath Truffles

These Lavender Cashmere bath truffles are beautiful and smell amazing.  For this recipe I am using the Cashmere fragrance oil.  I found this fragrance in one of the Brambleberry’s collection and absolutely fell in love with it.  I think its a perfect fragrance for Fall and Winter, but I can use it all year long.

Bath truffles are also known as solid bubble bath and bubble bars.  I am using an ice cream scoop to give these a fun look and adding varying colors of mica that seem to go really well with this wonderful fragrance. To this recipe I also added Lavender essential oil so that it also enhances the bathing experience through aromatherapy.  I love how the smell of lavender helps me relax.

With the holidays approaching these bath truffles can be a great hostess gift for the festivities or as part of a DIY personal care gift basket for the holidays.

Ingredients and Materials

  • 3 cups of Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • 2 cups of citric acid
  • 1 cup SLSA
  • 10.4 oz shea butter
  • 2 Tbsp Polysorbate 80
  • 3 ml Cashmere Fragrance oil
  • 3 ml Lavender Essential oil
  • 1/4 tsp each Merlot sparkle mica, Soft beige mica and Gold sparkle mica
  • mixing bowls
  • measuring cups
  • gloves
  • face mask
  • food weight scale
  • ice cream scoop

How to make Lavender Cashmere Bath Truffles

Step 1:  Using a large sifter and a large mixing bowl sift together the baking soda, citric acid and SLSA.

This recipe uses baking soda, citric acid and SLSA, these ingredients can create a lot of dust that can be uncomfortable in the throat.  I always use the proper personal protective equipment.  Put on the mask to protect from inhaling any of the baking soda or citric acid.

Step 2:  Weigh out the shea butter and melt in the microwave in 30 second intervals.

I used shea butter because I love how wonderful it feels on the skin and because of the great properties it has for the skin.

Shea butter alternatives:

Alternatives to shea butter can be to split and use 1 cup of shea butter and one cup of coconut oil, cocoa butter or mango butter.  All these are also great for the skin and very moisturizing.  You can also replace altogether with any of these other oils and butters.

Step 3:  Add the Cashmere fragrance oil, the Lavender essential oil and the Polysorbate 80 to the melted shea butter and mix well.

Step 4:  Add the shea butter mixed with oils to the sifted ingredients and mix with your hands.  Knead the mixture until it is all fully combined and has a consistency similar to play dough.

I always use gloves when I make personal care products, but definitely recommend using gloves when working with this recipe because is very sticky.

Step 5:  Split the mix equally into three different bowls and add the mica colorants.  Continue to knead the mixture until all the mica is fully incorporated.

Step 6:  Line a separate tray with wax paper.  This will be used to place your Lavender Cashmere bath truffles to allow to dry.

Step 7:  Pack and press the mixture tightly into the ice cream scoop using an alternating color pattern.

Step 8:  Squeeze the handle to release the Lavender Cashmere bath truffles from the ice cream scoop and place on the tray with wax paper to allow to dry.  This is a large recipe and you will get fifteen to twenty bath truffles depending on the size of the ice cream scoop you are using.

I had some small amount left and made some small hearts that look beautiful.

Step 9:  Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.  Its best if it dries for up to 3 days if possible but after 24 hours these bath truffles will be very firm.

How to use the Lavender Cashmere bath truffles

These bath truffles can be use as any bubble bath bar.  You can simply add to the bath filled with water or break with your hands under the running water.  I prefer to break it under the running water, this build great big bubbles.

Once these bath truffles are ready, simply enjoy them in your bath time.  As always, be careful getting in and out of the bathtub because it may be slippery due to the oils in these wonderful bath truffles.

How to store the Lavender Cashmere bath truffles

Depending on your location, humidity can be a significant factor to consider.  Where I live, it is always very humid so I regularly use a dehumidifier to make sure the house is at a good humidity level.  Humidity will activate the bath truffles, therefore keep them in a dry place.

These Lavender Cashmere bath truffles can be saved in an air tight container.  I have always used the bath truffles I make within six months after making them.  However, if properly dried, they can have a longer shelf life.

A note about SLSA and Polysorbate 80 ingredients in bubble bath bars (bath truffles)

These bath truffles start with the same ingredients as many bath bombs.  Baking soda, citric acid and shea butter are generally used in several personal care products but the SLSA and Polysorbate 80 may be new to you.

SLSA is derived from coconut or palm oil and is consider a natural product that helps enhance the bubbles in the bubble bath truffles.

Polysorbate 80 its an emulsifier that helps the color and oils to mix into the water creating a homogeneous bath water instead of having the oil and colors separate.

We have a soap lady in town that sells at the farmer’s market and online. When the pandemic started she made soap and put it out along at the street on a table for people to pick up for free. – Margy
