Fabric Flowers Picture Frame DIY

Pinterest pin with close up of the fabric flowers with wax stamp centers picture frame.

I am super excited to share with you this easy DIY on how to turn your fabric squares into lovely flowers and make a unique picture frame for home decor. In this fabric flowers picture frame DIY, I give you lots of tips on how to make unique flowers using scrap fabric you have at home and even how to get unique fabric designs and novelty designs to make a picture frame as unique as you. This is a great yet simple craft that shows you the wonderful transformation that a bit of paint and some imagination can create. I have a few sewing crafts that I have shared that can be another way to use your favorite fabric. After you finish this craft head over to my Tablet Fabric Cover Easy Sewing DIY, How to Make Novelty Reversible Placemats, DIY Study Room Pin Boards, and my Fabric Flower Vase DIY.

For today’s project I am using fabric squares that I had from my earlier fabric designs I have made available in my Spoonflower Store. When you submit patterns to sell on Spoonflower you have to purchase a sample to validate the design, colors, and scale. I am using some of the fabric from my Naturally Curious Pattern Collection.

Materials needed for the fabric flowers picture frame DIY:

  • 7 fabric squares – 6 in x 6 in fabric squares – you can buy fat quarters at Spoonflower as well
  • Unfinished DIY Wood Picture Frame
  • acrylic paint in light brown or wood stain with a foam brush in light brown
  • Wax Seal Stamp Kit
  • hot glue gun with sticks
  • Large Eye Sewing Needle and thread matching the fabric colors
  • Fabric Mod Podge

How to make a fabric flowers picture frame

First, paint the small wood frames using brown acrylic paint or gel wood stain. If using acrylic, you can use a foam brush to give the frame the look of natural wood.

While the picture frame is drying, make the fabric flowers and flower centers.

How to make fabric flowers

To make the fabric flowers first cut the squares one inch from the end creating a long string as pictured below.

Threading the fabric to make the fabric flowers for the picture frame.

Then using the needle and thread, thread through the fabric on one end leaving about an inch of space between each tread, and join the ends together.

Pull the string tight and move the fabric around to form the flowers. Once you like how the flower looks cut the string and make a knot at the end of the string to hold the form.

Use the wax stamp kit to make the flower centers. The wax kit is simple to use. Add four different wax colors to the melting spoon and allow them to melt. Once melted pour on the small plate provided and add the stamp. Allow the stamp to cool and then remove it from the plate.

To finish the flowers use the fabric mod podge to glue in the wax stamps as the flower centers to the fabric flowers.

Plan the layout for the fabric flowers picture frame. Before gluing the flowers place them around the picture frame and decide the best layout.

Once you like the design, use the glue gun and glue sticks to glue the fabric flowers to the picture frame.

Place your favorite photo or your own art. I recognize this is a very unique style and bold with the red color. The idea is to reflect your personality and spark your creativity and imagination. Also, to have a fun afternoon creating something unique that you can enjoy for years to come. This project is also a great idea for a Mother’s Day gift!

I hope you get some inspiration from this project and get to try it soon.  Do let me know how yours turn out.

Stay creative, and stay unique!

Jasmine

Marbled Clay Palette DIY

These past few days I have been good at keeping my daily painting practice. I realized I have a few palettes, however, since I mostly use watercolor and regular gouache I sometimes keep the leftover paint in the palette since I can rewet and use it. I found myself looking for another palette and decided […]
