In today’s DIY I want to show you how to make a simple and easy DIY fabric case tablet cover. I’ve been thinking so many ideas on what to do with some of my fabric samples that I have purchased from my Spoonflower store. I use Spoonflower to sell my art in fabric and other home décor items including wallpaper, pillows and bed linens. I have to purchase a sample to validate the design before the fabric is available for sale. Most of the time I get a 21″ by 18″ size fabric so that I can also use it at home for other projects. A few weeks ago I shared yet another simple sewing DIY using my fabric designs to make unique and double sided placemats. This week I want to show you how to create a simple fabric case for the table. This DIY can also be used for other electronic products, simply change the fabric size.

There are so many options available for tablet cases, but to me the best ones are the ones handmade. DIY tablet covers that can be as unique as you or me. I prefer to make my own because I get to use my own fabric designs. I think that this DIY tablet fabric cover is a perfect idea for the artist at home. Simply get their fabric design, make this super easy cover and gift it to your favorite artist.
This DIY idea came from an actual need that I have been thinking to resolve for a while. When I take my tablet with me I usually just put it in my purse. I love that the apple pencil attaches magnetically however it comes loose and gets lost at the bottom of my purse. With this simple and unique tablet fabric case I now avoid having to search all over my purse to find my pencil when I need it.
How to make a fabric case tablet cover in 15 minutes
The first step is to cut the fabric to the correct size. In this case I had a 21″ x 18″ piece of fabric. I use a 12.9 inch iPad Pro. With this size cutting the fat quarter into two pieces of fabric of the same size was the perfect size for my iPad.
Cut the fabric into two pieces of 10.5″ x 18″. Then cut on the long end – the 18″ to 13″. You will now have four pieces of fabric two at 10.5″ x 13″ and two at 10.5″ x 6″.
Pin together the fabric making sure the pins are perpendicular to the fabric and the printed side of the fabric is facing inward. Do this for both sets of fabrics cut in the first step.
Sew the fabric together with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam. For the larger fabric sew together the two long ends and one of the short ends. This will be the bottom end of the tablet case. Leave the top open to join together with the small fabric which will be the top cover.
Sew together the top cover on the long end (10.5″) and two of the short ends (6″).
Turn both pieces of the tablet cover over to get the printed side out.
Lastly sew together the top half with the bottom of the cover. Match the two long ends of the top cover with one of top side of the bottom cover. You will be sewing together three pieces of fabric, the open end on the top cover and one side of the bottom part of the cover. Then continue to sew around the other side of the bottom part of the tablet cover giving it the folded seam and finished look.
This method worked for me pretty well and was very easy to make this tablet fabric cover very quickly.
I had so much fun making this simple cover. Now I am super happy that I will not have to be looking around for my pencil and can take my tablet with me wherever I go.
I hope you get to try this project and make some simple covers for your electronics.
