I am always excited to welcome the fall season because I love the great weather that it brings, lots of family time, and getting closer to the Holidays. I love making and using sugar scrubs because they provide mild skin exfoliation. This DIY hygge soap sugar scrub is perfect all year long but inspired by the hygge lifestyle and aromas and perfect for fall and winter. In this tutorial, I add shea butter, vegetable glycerin, and brown sugar with the whipped soap base to create a perfectly moisturizing, exfoliating sugar scrub. This sugar scrub is perfectly mildly exfoliating and the scent is absolutely wonderful. The texture is just perfect and has a lot of great lather. I hope you get to try it and enjoy it.

Whipped hygge sugar scrub is absolutely perfect for the season!
The whipped soap base is super luxurious on the skin and is also great for keeping the skin moisturized. I have a post where I share a full recipe and DIY if you want to make your own whipped soap base. The added organic shea butter adds another layer of great moisturizing properties without impacting the lather. For this hygge soap scrub formulation, I also added vegetable glycerin which is a humectant and attracts moisture to the skin for even more skin benefits.
I am using a fragrance oil for this DIY but you can also replace it with essential oils or avoid it completely. The scent is called Cashmere from Brambleberry and was released a few years ago as part of the Hygge collection. The description of scent notes includes blueberry, white freesia, wild grape, pomegranate, lily, magnolia, green vines, cashmere, and violet. Since it was released it has been a favorite at home and with my nieces. I feel comfortable using this scent because all of these vendor fragrance oils are phthalate-free.
The whip soap base can be made easily in advance or made as part of this DIY, as well as following the DIY Whip Soap Base post. In this hygge soap scrub, I used my other favorite purchased whipped soap base because I simply have it available. I have tons of it at home since making whipped soap is one of my favorite crafts to make and I love that I can make so many variations with colors, scents, and additives.
Making whipped sugar scrubs using the soap base is easy and requires only a few additional ingredients to create a unique and wonderful product.
How to make a hygge soap sugar scrub with whipped soap base

- 1 oz Golden Jojoba Oil
- 1.2 oz Vegetable Glycerin
- 1 oz Shea Butter
- 2 oz Brown Sugar

- Hand mixer
- Mixing bowls
- 3-4 – 4 oz mason jars with lid
How to make hygge whipped soap sugar scrub
Separate 4 ounces from the foaming bath butter soap base container. Whip for approximately two to three minutes. It will start to fluff and will be easier to whip. Or you can wait to add the extra oils and whip it all together.
In a microwave-safe measuring cup melt the organic shea butter. Use 30 second intervals and finish melting any small pieces by mixing with a spatula.
Add the melted shea butter, vegetable glycerin, and golden jojoba oil and whip for seven to ten minutes to fully incorporate and fluff.
Add the Cashmere fragrance oil or your favorite essential oil if using. Continue to whip for another two to three minutes until fully combined and enough air is incorporated to get a fluffy consistency.
Other oils that I like to use in whipped soap and are a great replacement for the golden jojoba oil are sweet almond oil, olive oil, and rice bran oil.
Lastly, add the sugar to the soap and mix for a few seconds, just enough to combine.
How to color the super skin loving hygge whipped soap sugar scrub
Mix the mica colorant with a small amount of oil just enough to combine. Use a small paint brush or popsicle stick to add the mica mix to the piping bag.
Add the hygge whipped soap sugar scrub to the piping bag.
Pipe the hygge soap sugar scrub into the jars.
I always spritz some rubbing alcohol in the jars before adding the sugar scrub and let it air dry before I transfer the soap into the jars.
I think this soap can also be a wonderful hygge hand soap. You can use the same ingredients and omit the sugar as well for a perfect hygge mild soap.
I love the texture of this sugar scrub and the mild exfoliation. It can be used with a loofah or a washcloth.

Hello Erin, I am so sorry that the soap scrub did not turn out for you. I am not sure what could have happened, maybe the mixing time, folding in the brown sugar. There are so many factors. It should have turned out similar to the pictures shared in the DIY.
