This lavender and grapefruit lip tint is very easy to make with only a few ingredients and lavender and grapefruit essential oils. For this formulation, I used ultra-refined and deodorized shea butter and cocoa butter. You can also use raw organic ingredients as I did on the Chocolate and Peppermint all Natural Lip Balm DIY. The shea butter feels luxurious on the skin and the cocoa butter gives the perfect moisturizing and hardness properties to this wonderful lip balm. There are also wonderful moisturizing benefits on both the shea butter and cocoa butter. The added sweet almond oil helps create the perfect consistency and the castor oil adds to the perfect sleek soft texture.
How to make Lavender and Grapefruit lip tint
Lip balm ingredients
- 0.5 ounces Cocoa Butter
- 0.5 ounces Shea Butter
- 0.3 ounces Sweet Almond Oil
- 0.2 ounces Castor Oil
- 2 drops each of Lavender and Grapefruit Essential Oils
- Merlot Sparkle Mica (from Brambleberry)
- Lip balm containers
Instructions
Weigh out the cocoa butter and shea butter and melt using the double boiler method. You can also melt in the microwave for a few seconds. I prefer to use the double boiler method because it makes it easier to control the temperature of the butters and avoid overheat. The double boiler method can also help cut down some of the time it takes to cool the lip balms. It is difficult to control the temperature using the microwave.
Once most of the butters are melted and a few small amounts are left, remove them from the double boiler and mix them with a spatula to finish melting.
Add the sweet almond oil and the castor oil to the melted butters and mix well.
Add the merlot sparkle mica to make this lip balm a gorgeous lip tint. Continue to mix until fully incorporated. You can certainly skip this if you just need a lip balm.
Add the lavender and grapefruit essential oils and continue to mix well with a spatula or a spoon.
Pour the lip balm into the lip balm containers and allow it to cool for a couple of hours or until fully hardened. Use as needed and indulge in this great lavender and grapefruit lip balm that is a treat for the skin.
This formulation is just perfect as it is but it can be a base for many variations. For the spring and summer months, I like to also use sweet orange essential oil and lime essential oil. These essential oils are very aromatic and go well with the consistency of this perfect lip balm.
If the cocoa butter aroma is too strong, you can also use a deodorized cocoa butter. As with many of the DIYs that I share in this blog these are also another great gift idea for friends and family.
