The best way to add the color and fragrance is after the soap has been melted. Once the lavender essential oil and the various colored micas or natural colorants are added make sure to mix well to avoid pockets of mica that are not fully blended.
Making melt and pour soap is fairly easy, some of the complexity may come with trying to create artistic complicated layers. In this soap I used a method called the double pour. The melt and pour soap stays separated when both colored soaps are poured at the same temperature. Make sure there is no more than five degrees difference in the temperatures prior to pour. If the soaps are poured too hot the colors will mix. To give intricate swirls pour at a temperature at least five degrees cooler than the temperature of the already poured soap. The range of temperatures to pour may vary depending on the type of soap you are using. Keep the temperature within 130 to 125 degrees F to avoid having to reheat the soap.
