In this, yet another Spring-themed cold process soap DIY, I am sharing a lovely purple, green, and yellow soap. This Mardi Gras Inspired cold process soap DIY is perfect for Spring and Summer. I am using the “The Olive Branch” comparable fragrance oil, which is a fruity and complex scent. For this soap, I wanted to celebrate Spring and decided to keep some Mardi Gras inspired colors. This is a great soap to enjoy at home or as a hostess gift for Mardi Gras celebrations.

For this spring and summer cold process soap DIY, I am using the scent comparable to “The Olive Branch” fragrance oil, which behaves very well in cold process soaps with my formulations. I used the Emerald Green Mica and the Purple Galaxy mica from Wholesale Supplies Plus and the Yellow mica from Brambleberry. Both places have great mica colorants and great options for colors.
In this cold process soap DIY, I used a hanger swirl technique and a swirl top.
My favorite cold process soap additives
Two of my favorite cold process soap making additives are kaolin clay and colloidal oatmeal. I add them to almost all of my soaps because of the fantastic properties they add to the soaps.
Kaolin clay is a very gentle clay used in many cosmetics and face masks. It is not only gentle on the skin but it is also great for anchoring the scents in the soaps. I also think it gives a great slip to the soaps that make the soap super luxurious.
Colloidal oatmeal is also used in several skin care products and is considered a skin protectant. It helps retain moisture on the skin. It is very soothing and is usually recommended for people with dry skin. You can skip it, but I like it in my soaps because of its excellent skin properties.
Another additive that I tend to add to the soaps is tussah silk. I love how it makes the soap so much smoother and with a lovely silky glide.
For this Spring Mardi Gras Inspired cold process soap, I wanted to create a fun and intricate design on the inside and a lovely, beautiful swirl on the top. The scent behaves very well, and it is a good choice when wanting to create intricate designs. I have used it in the past, and I had some notes on how it behaved, so it was fun to plan a hanger swirl fun design for this spring-inspired soap. If you are using a new scent, I encourage you to take notes as well, it is a great reference for future soap making.

Step by Step Mardi Gras Inspired Cold Process Soap DIY
- Weigh out the butters and coconut oil and melt them in the microwave
- Add the liquid oils to the melted butters
- Weigh out the water in a separate container
- Weigh out the sodium hydroxide (lye) needed for the soap in a separate container
- Sprinkle the sodium hydroxide (lye) into the water and mix well, then allow to cool to 85-90 degrees F
- Add the lye water solution to the melted oils and butters
- Mix using the immersion blender for only a few seconds until you achieve a light trace
- Split the batter into three separate containers and mix the Emerald Green mica colorant into the largest container. Then the purple galaxy mica on a medium size container, and the yellow color mica into the smallest container. Mix the micas very well.
- Pour the Emerald Green soap batter on a larger layer into the mold
- Pour the purple color soap batter into the mold in an up and down motion, then pour the yellow color soap into the mold in an up and down motion
- Use a hanger tool to make infinity sign motions. Three to four times is enough to create fun swirl designs.
- Pour the remaining purple and yellow soap in a layer on top of the earlier poured and swirled soap
- Decorate the top of the soap in a lovely swirl design using a skewer or a chopstick.
- Allow the soap to go through the saponification process for at least 24 hours
- Cut the soap and allow it to cure for four to six weeks
