Paper Mache is a fun craft I enjoy making. I am so happy that my daughter was looking forward to make this craft for some time. These Paper Mache Modern Bowls were a great family creation adventure. I only had to mention that we were ready to start the craft and the balloons were already filled within seconds.

This is a mommy and me DIY and I am so excited to share it because it was a lot of fun to make. Both my daughter and I had a great time dying these fun paper mache modern bowls.
DIY Paper Mache Modern Bowls
First gather all the materials:
- 3 medium size balloons
- Mod Podge
- foam brushes and paint brushes
- milk paint in virginia reel (purple), lexington blue and pale peach
- scrapbooking paper
- lots of old news paper
- scissors
First tear the newspaper into strips and have readily available to use. Then fill up the balloons in three different sizes and apply the newspaper to the balloons using the mod podge. Allow to dry overnight. Make sure to apply at least 3-4 layers of newspaper strips to make sure the bowls can hold some weight and are fairly thick.
After the paper mache bowl is dry pop the balloon and cut the edges straight.
Paint the outside of the Paper Mache Modern Bowls and allow to fully dry.
Once the outside paint is fully dry, paint the inside of the bowls and allow to fully dry.
The next steps are where we then let our creativity fully flow. We picked a scrapbook paper that had flowers and circles with some fun sparkles.
Cut the scrapbook paper in the various shapes and plan how you would want the scrapbook paper pieces to be placed on the bowls.
Apply the scrapbook paper designs on the inside of the bowls and cover the full surface of the bowls with mod podge to create a surface seal.
Once again, allow to fully dry.
We decided to also do one last layer of mod podge on the outside of the bowls to also create a seal because these will be used in my daughter’s play room. This additional layer of mod podge will allow to continue to strengthen the bowls.
I think these turned out very nice and I am sure will help a lot with the organization in my daughter’s play room.
My daughter enjoyed so much working in this project and I was so proud on how she handled having to wait to finally get her bowls to decorate and use in her play room.
We had worked in other projects together in the past. I love that she helps me some times to even come up with DIY project ideas.
We had a great time making these. This is certainly a project that you can do by yourself or include everyone in the family. It certainly was a lot of fun.
