I love this project but once again cannot take the full credit of this great idea. My daughter suggested a fun tie dye design handmade soap that resulted in beautiful hand soaps. With the tie dye idea we decided to use my new soap mold that I got as part of a mystery box that I purchased this month.

I sometimes like to get these mystery boxes, I’ve found that in some cases it allows me to try new things that I otherwise would not have purchased and then fall in love with new things such as the soaps from my new mold.
This is another easy melt and pour soap project and as my daughter suggested another great gift idea for friends and family – and her school teachers. It is also a great project to work with kids during the summer time as well.
Materials Needed
- Aloe vera melt and pour soap base
- Goat’s Milk melt and pour soap base
- Mica soap colorants
- Alcohol
- Knife to cut the base soap
- Measuring cup
- Spoons
- Rectangle and Oval multiple pattern silicone soap mold
- Essential oils or soap fragrance (optional)
How to make Tie Dye Design Handmade soaps
For this soap we mixed the aloe vera soap base with a small amount of the goats milk soap base. It turned out about 90% aloe vera soap base and 10% goats milk soap base. This mix allows the colors to still shine brightly. Usually with the white base the colors are muted and we were looking for a beautiful bright tie dye design.
First cut the soap in small squares and place in two microwave safe measuring cups. Place the cups with the soap in the microwave and melt in 30 second intervals until fully melted.
Make sure to watch the soap and do not allow it to boil. I have noticed that if it is allowed to overheat and start boiling the soap base makes less bubbles.
Once the soap base is fully melted add the mica colorants. In one cup use the rose pink color and in the second measuring cup add the blue-green color. Add the fragrance or essential oil if using and mix well using the spoon.
The next step is to pour the soap into the mold giving it the tie dye design. For this design is best to use a double pour approach and pour both colors at the same time. While pouring, move the location of where you are pouring slowly so that it can create a contrast in the mold.
To get rid of any bubbles that may form while pouring just spritz with alcohol and the bubbles will fade away.
The method of using a melt and pour soap base is great because its simple and the project takes only a few minutes until the soap is in the mold.
Let the soap harden for two hours and then unmold the soap.
I like this tie dye design because it gives the soap a fun artistic look.
A very practical work of art!
I love that with a bit of creativity you can make a practical item that looks like a gorgeous piece of art.
The new mold has some fun designs as well. My favorite design in this mold is the tree of life but all the designs are lovely.
I hope you enjoyed this tie dye design handmade soaps and get to try this project. Let me know how your soaps turn out.
