Ingredients and Materials
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 2 oz coconut oil
- 1.5 ml Wild Rose fragrance oil
- rose petals witch hazel in a spray bottle
- plastic bath bomb mold
- 1 tsp Polysorbate 80
- rose petals
- jasmine flower buds
- pinch of light pink bath bomb colorant
How to make Wild Rose Bath Bombs
First, combine the baking soda and citric acid in a large bowl and break any clumps with your hands. I recommend wearing gloves when making these bath bombs because they can get sticky.
In a measuring cup, measure out the coconut oil and melt it if needed. Add the Wild Rose fragrance oil and polysorbate 80 and mix well. Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier that helps mix the oil and mica with the bath water so that there is no separation or pooling on the top.
Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix well with your hands. The consistency should be like wet sand, if needed add the rose petal witch hazel to make sure the mix is wet enough to hold its shape.
Add the light pink colorant and mix well using your hands.
Place a small number of rose petals and jasmine flower buds on the bottom of one side of the bath bomb mold.
Fill each half of the bath bomb molds and shape the bath bombs. Remove the bath bomb from the mold and allow it to dry overnight.
These Wild Rose bath bombs can definitely be a treat for mother’s day or a birthday gift for the ladies in the family. Bath bombs can make a great handmade gift.
Other additives for bath bombs
This recipe is fairly simple and certainly adding other ingredients can make the bath bombs have different added benefits.
Lavender is one of my favorite essential oils. I make these bath bombs in Lavender on occasion because it definitely helps me relax.
One additive is Epsom salts. Use up to 1/4 cup for this recipe. Epsom salts are known to be soothing for muscles and body aches.
Another additive is colloidal oatmeal. Use up to 2 tablespoons. Colloidal oatmeal is known to alleviate dry or itchy skin.
Lastly, clays are another great additive in bath bombs. Use up to one tablespoon. Clays are said to help remove toxins from the skin and add hardness to the bath bombs.
With the additives above make sure to add enough witch hazel to get the right consistency for the mixture. It should be like wet sand.
Bath bombs and bath truffles (solid bubble bath) are great for adding oils, butters and skin beneficial additives to the bath water. Bath truffles are similar to bath bombs but with a higher percentage of oils and butters in the recipe.
