How to make reverse decoupage autumn dessert plates

decoupage Autumn dessert plates

One of the things I love the most about fall is pumpkin related foods, and that pumpkin pie in season.  Not that I need a specific season to eat pumpkin pie but at least it is generally more acceptable to make this delicious treat at home during the fall.  These decoupage autumn dessert plates were inspired by the beautiful season and the delicious dessert.

Autumn is definitely my favorite season.  I love to see the leaves colors changing on the trees and cool breeze coming in after the hot summer.  We celebrate Thanksgiving, so it is also a time for anticipation of the day that we welcome the whole family at my home and we get to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate.

Decoupage Autumn dessert plates

These decoupage autumn dessert plates are an easy DIY that is perfect for those desserts during Thanksgiving or anytime this fall.

I was so lucky to have found this beautiful fall themed scrapbook paper in one of my stacks!

Materials you will need to make the decoupage autumn dessert plates

  • Glass plates
  • Fall themed scrapbook paper
  • Dishwasher safe Mod podge
  • Foam brush
  • Cutting mat
  • Rotary cutter

Step by step to make decoupage autumn dessert plates

Clean the plates thoroughly washing with soap and water.  Set the plates to dry while you continue with the next steps.

Cut the paper to the size of your plate.  The ones I used for this project are 6 inch square plates I found at World Market.

Cut the corners of the scrapbook paper at a 45 degree angle the length of the bevel of the plates.  For this plates this was one inch diagonal in each corner of the paper.  This will help the corners to align properly and ensure that the decoupage can be smooth on that area of the plate.

Apply a thin layer of mod podge on the back of the plates and place the scrapbook paper with the decoration facing the front of the plate.

Squeeze out any wrinkles that may form.  Apply a layer of mod podge on the back of the decoupaged plates to seal the paper.

This decoupage autumn dessert plates project is a fairly quick project.  The drying time of the mod podge is also fairly quick.  So in about in about an hour after sealing you will be able to have a lovely dessert plate.

Every time I look at this plates I fall in love with them.  I think the paper has all the elements of the season, the pumpkins and the various color and types of leaves “falling”.  These will definitely be used sooner than Thanksgiving… My daughter is waiting to get that delicious pumpkin pie and eat a slice on one of these plates.

Decoupage Autumn Dessert plates

This was a fun project with a lovely plate that I will certainly use to serve desserts but it can also be used as a decorating plate during autumn.  I enjoy working on decoupage projects, these Decoupage pumpkins is another fun project you can try this fall.

I have made another version of these plates that match some of my dinnerware.  These From blah to glam decoupage glass plates is a similar project with a different source of inspiration.
