Faux Snow Christmas Ornaments

If you like making your own Christmas ornaments, or you are like me and have several Christmas trees at home during the holidays that need some more ornaments, this faux snow Christmas ornaments DIY is definitely for you.

I love making Christmas ornaments at home; it’s another family project that we like to take on every year. Most of the DIY ornaments that we make adorn our second Christmas tree that we set up on the second floor at home. This second tree is unique in that it showcases ornaments that we have made while making family memories. You can certainly take the opportunity to make memories at home while you make these lovely Christmas ornaments.

These ornaments were not only fun to make but also very budget friendly as most of the materials are from the dollar store.

Materials needed for the Faux Snow Christmas Ornaments

  • Faux snow from Dollar Tree
  • Christmas Ornaments from Dollar Tree
  • Clear glue
  • Holly berries for crafts
  • small decorating leaves
  • paint brush
  • small plate or shallow bowl to hold the faux snow

Step by step on how to make Faux Snow Christmas Ornaments

First, pour the faux snow into a small plate or shallow bowl.

Apply a generous coat of clear glue on the surface of the wood crafting ornaments.  Then press the glue-covered surface of the wood ornaments on the faux snow. Make sure to press over the edges to make sure the full surface is covered with snow.  Set aside and allow to dry.

Repeat the steps above for all the different ornaments you want to make.  After the snowy ornaments are dry shake off any excess snow.

I purchased the wood crafting ornaments that I am using for this project at Dollar Tree.  They had these in four different types, the Christmas stocking, tree, bell, and snowflake. I made one of each, but since they come in a package of 5 I have some more ideas in mind on how to use the rest of them for other fun Christmas projects.

I decided to add some holly berries and small leaves to finish off the ornaments.

Lastly use a toothpick to make sure the opening for the string is not glued or just remove any glue that might have gotten there.  Then add the string through the hole on the ornaments and hang it on the Christmas tree this year.

These faux snow Christmas ornaments turned out great and I like how the holly berries make a contrast with the white and sparkly background.  The holly berries in the ornaments really take them from simple to really beautiful and are perfect for Christmas.

The snowflake ornament was a bit tricky to work with because the glue was drying too fast before I was able to finish applying the glue to the full surface.  It did lose some of the faux snow but still looks good for our second tree.  Next time, I may do the snowflake in halves so that I can attach the snow to each half before the glue starts to dry.  All the other ornaments had a larger surface area and were so much easier to apply the glue and make sure that were fully covered with the faux snow.

I think these ornaments will also look great hanging on the mantle garland.

I hope you get to try this project and make some fun family memories while making these faux snow Christmas ornaments.
