How to make cork Christmas Ornaments at home

I love making and sharing how to make handmade Christmas ornaments. In this DIY I share how to make a wine cork Christmas ornament by reusing some wine corks I have collected over the year. You can use your old saved ones or get new ones for this craft. I’ve added a link below where you can find some.

There are so many handmade Christmas ornaments ideas I’ve seen using wine corks but in this DIY I tried to keep it fun and straightforward. These handmade ornaments are easy to make by yourself in a few minutes or perfect to make with the family for a fun Christmas craft family time.

While these ornaments are fairly simple to make they look great for Christmas decorations and around the tree. I like the vintage look and the fact that I can have yet another unique style of ornaments on the multiple Christmas trees we have at home.

Below is a complete step-by-step to make this cork Christmas ornament at home.

Materials for the wine corks DIY Christmas ornaments:

  • Wine Corks
  • hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • red and white twine
  • holly branch for decorating
Materials needed for the DIY wine cork Christmas ornament DIY.

Cork Christmas Ornament DIY Instructions:

Cut the corks into 3/8 inch slices using a knife or a table saw.

If cutting the corks using the knife make sure to first steam them for a few minutes. Put the corks in a strainer over a pot with some water and steam for approximately three minutes. This will make cutting the corks so much easier and faster.

Layout the design and glue the wine cork pieces together using the hot glue gun with glue sticks.

Glue the ribbon and the holly branch to the front side of the wine cork Christmas ornament.

Turn the ornament to the back and glue the red and white twine to the center and one of the ends of the cork ornament.

Layout of the wine cork ornament before gluing the cork pieces.

Finally, glue the red and white twine to the back of the wreath and hang it on the Christmas tree.

Make as many as you need.

This wine cork DIY Christmas ornament is easy to make. You can make more variations using the same layout and paint the center and the surrounding cork pieces with gold or silver color to make them more festive. I like how these tuned out and the vintage look with the varying cork colors.

Another way to use this DIY Christmas ornament is to make a few and use them to make a Christmas garland for the fireplace mantle.

Also great for handmade stocking stuffers and gifts this year.

Below I’ve listed a few more DIY Christmas ornaments to make this season. These are all great to make with the family, maybe even make new traditions.

I hope you enjoy this wine cork ornament DIY for the holidays. I would love to see what you make.
