One of my passions is to do crafts and DIYs. Kids love working with crafts as they explore and learn. These kids crafts ideas are can also be used as a great opportunity to teach a few practical skills as well. Here are a few DYI crafts ideas that are very easy to do with kids and will spark some good conversation for an opportunity to teach and keep them learning throughout the summer. Its amazing how much kids can absorb and how easy they come up with very creative ideas.
1. DIY Clay Projects
Clay projects are very easy to make. These can be made for any season. For summer some ideas on what to make are sea shells, fish shapes, flowers and other abstract fun shapes. You can also make craft projects in preparation for the upcoming seasons. I share below three clay craft project ideas to make with kids in summer to be ready for fall and winter. For this projects you can use either air dry clay or oven baked clay. You may decide depending on the kids ages but both are great craft project ideas for kids. With oven baked clays you have the flexibility to start with the colors of your design. With air dry clay you can always paint the final piece which ads another layer of fun to this project.

2. Decorating Tape (Washi Tape) Bookmarks
Making DIY bookmarks is another perfect DIY craft for kids to make this summer as well. This is perfect for customizing school supplies and bringing a bit of everyone’s personality to school supplies. There are so many options for washi tape. You can find so many ideas here. You can use washi tape for all sorts of crafts and for decorating notebooks and journals.
3. Paper Mache Organizing Bowls
I love this kids craft idea, it is so much fun. Kids are entertained from beginning to end. From blowing the balloons to selecting the perfect design and painting this craft has it all. Summer and back to school scrapbooking paper are great for this craft but any other theme will be great. Make defining the theme for the organizing bowls a fun part of the project and with so many scrapbooking paper options available the sky is the limit. The added value is that these bowls can also be used to organize small items in the kids or craft room.
4. Embossed Small Hand Soaps (Melt and Pour Soap)
Melt and pour soap making is another great craft for kids. Actually it is even a great idea for school projects. My daughter and I used melt and pour for a science project where she had to show the various layers of the earth. That was a great school project, and very creative too! There are also so many different options of melt and pour soap bases to select from. My favorites are the shea butter, honey and goat’s milk.
