These past few days I have been good at keeping my daily painting practice. I realized I have a few palettes, however, since I mostly use watercolor and regular gouache I sometimes keep the leftover paint in the palette since I can rewet and use it. I found myself looking for another palette and decided that I just needed one more, but a cute, lovely palette that I wanted to use every day. I decided to make this lovely marbled clay palette and share the DIY so you can make your own too.

How to make an abstract marbled polymer clay palette in lovely neutral pastel colors
First, gather the materials:
- various clay colors that will match your style and décor – I used a lovely tan and a pastel yellow
- clay sculpting tools
- sealant spray
First, cut a total of four ounces of polymer clay. I am using pastel yellow, and tan 2 ounces of each for this DIY.
Roll the clay into strings, then align the strings together and twist. Repeat this step at least two more times. To create a marbled look continue mixing the colors with the hands and twist until you get the desired pattern.
Make the twist into a circle and roll it out with the roller into a circle of 1/4 inch thick.
Using the clay circular tool make a well in the center and seven smaller wells around the circumference.
Place the marbled clay palette on a baking tray and bake as recommended in the clay instructions.
Usually, the wrapping of the oven-baked clay will provide the specific temperature and time required in the oven. The polymer clay that I used in this soap dish DIY state to heat the oven to a temperature of 275 degrees F and 15 minutes for each 1/4 inch.
Once the oven has reached the desired temperature place the polymer clay soap dishes in the oven. Set a timer for the recommended time. Once the recommended time in the oven has been reached, remove the palette from the oven and allow it to cool.
Lastly, spray the sealant generously on one side. Allow to fully dry then seal the other side and allow to fully dry.
Enjoy your new marbled clay palette and show it off. And of course, create lots of art!
Gorgeous Polymer Clay Palette DIY
I had to test it right away and painted some watercolor flowers and lavender buds for a pattern that I plan to work on over the next few days. I think this DIY palette turned out perfect. This polymer clay palette was so much fun to make and I cannot wait to make a lot more. I really am in love with it. I hope you try it soon.
The pastel colors are great but these may not match your style. In that case, simply change the colors to those that match your style, and whatever colors will inspire you to paint and maintain a painting practice. In no time you will have a unique palette that will be a topic of conversation and a great way to show your creativity.
Have fun making as many as you want, and if you make them, tag me so I can see it and celebrate it.
