Abstract Marbled Polymer Clay Soap Dish DIY In Gorgeous Pastel Colors

I was searching for a small soap dish for a very long time. Nothing that I found was small enough to be placed by the sink in the half bathroom. I decided to make my own and I was so glad I did. In this fun and easy DIY, I will show you how to make a polymer clay sop dish. I loved the one I made for my bathroom so much that I decided I really had to share this idea. I do get compliments sometimes about my unique and beautiful soap dish.

With that in mind, I am sharing how to make a beautiful abstract marbled polymer clay soap dish DIY so that you can have your own in no time today.  These are perfect for small spaces and the pastel colors make these great for light decor or even the kid’s bathroom decor.

How to make an abstract marbled polymer clay soap dish in lovely pastel colors

First, gather the materials:

  • various clay colors that will match your style and décor
  • clay sculpting tools
  • small brush
  • metallic paint of your favorite color for the rim
Polymer clay in pastel blue, purple, yellow, and pink.
Strings of polymer clay together.
Twist the polymer clay to start creating the marbled look.
Stretch the polymer clay for the polymer clay soap dishes DIY and form it into a circle of one quarter inch thick.

First cut out some of the clay, in various colors. I am using pastel yellow, purple, blue, and pink. Cut approximately 3/4 to one inch length and 1/2 inch thick piece of each of the clay colors.  This will be enough for one abstract jewelry bowl.

Roll the clay into strings, then align the strings together and twist.  Make the twist into a circle and roll it out with the roller. Repeat this step at least one more time.

To create a marbled look continue to mix the colors together with the hands until you get the color pattern you desire. In this polymer clay soap dishes DIY I used two different patterns. For one of the patterns I mixed four times, this gave a more intricate design. For the second soap dish, I kept the colors a lot larger than the first design.

Then smooth out with your hand and with a roller or glass jar to about 1/4 inch thick.  To bake the polymer clay soap dishes and create an intricate form, place them in a ramekin and shape the edges.

Place the polymer clay soap dishes in a ramekin and bake as needed.

The shaping of the edges is what gives that unique fun look.

Usually, the wrapping of the oven-baked clay will provide the specific temperature and time required in the oven.  The polymer clay that I used in this soap dish DIY state to heat the oven to a temperature of 275 degrees F and 15 minutes for each 1/4 inch.

Once the oven has reached the desired temperature place the polymer clay soap dishes in the oven. Set a timer for the recommended time. Once the recommended time in the oven has been reached, remove the soap dishes from the oven and allow them to cool.

Once the polymer clay soap dishes are out of the oven allow them to cool.

Lastly, paint the rim with a color that will create contrast and maintain a unique and fun look.

Finish by placing it around the sink to complement the bathroom decor.  I think these turned out beautiful. These even got compliments from my husband so I am excited about that! This polymer clay soap dish DIY was so much fun to make and share with you. I hope you try it soon.

The pastel colors are great but these may not match your style. Simply change the colors to those that match your style and decor and follow the same process. In no time you will have unique soap dishes that will be a topic of conversation and a great way to show your creativity.

Have fun making as many as you want following this super easy polymer clay soap dish DIY.
